Beautiful buildings forgotten by José Moreno

One of the oldest buildings in Quetzaltenango, “Edificio de Correos y Telegrafos”, located in zone 1, worked more than 100 years ago, still works today but only two or three offices of 50. Beautiful right?

Welcome to the Feria de Xela by José Moreno

The Ferris wheels. The majority of people come to Xela’s townfair to have fun with the wheels and mechanical games and the adrenaline that these games provoke. I could take a photo from above the Ferris wheel, but I am not the kind of guy who enjoys the adrenaline rush, but I promise that if one day I decide to get on a tall Ferris wheel, I will share the photos with you.

THANK YOU aside: We would like to thank Luna McCarthy for having been behind XelaDailyPhoto for over a year. We will certainly miss her Fashion Fridays, her wit and humour and more importantly we will miss her. We wish Luna the best on whatever she decides to do. We leave the doors open and unlocked so she can come back anytime she wants.

Again by Luna McCarthy

It is that time again, for marching bands and pageant queen elections. The early season parades started today and will slowly work their way into a fervor over the next 2 months, culminating on September 15, Guatemalan Independence Day.

Feliz Dia de la Madre by Luna McCarthy

Happy Mother’s Day!! Mother’s Day always falls on May 10 in Guatemala, as opposed to many countries where it falls on the 2nd Sunday of May. Colorful cards, balloons and gifts are given and generally the holiday is celebrated in the same ways as in other countries. Families go out for dinner or have a large celebrations in the parental home, celebrating the mothers and grandmothers. No matter what day of the year, mothers are precious and should be celebrated and respected as the rocks of any society, but if you live in Guatemala or have Guatemalan heritage, que tienes uno muy feliz Dia de la Madre!
