One of the most popular songs in Guatemala and lately sung by many national artists, is “Luna de Xelajú” (the moon of Xelaju – Xelaju is the name for Quetzaltenango), created by Guatemalan composer Paco Pérez (Francisco Paco Pérez) who was born on April 25, 1917, in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Paco Pérez had his great entrance in 1935, in the local theatre of Quetzaltenango.
Later he became famous with the walz “Luna de Xelajú”. Paco Pérez died on October 27, 1951, in an aircrash in El Peten province at the age of 34.
