It’s odd living in another culture and “feeling” the signs of seasons that may or may not be accurate; in Guatemala, we really only have two seasons, Summer and Winter. Then again, this beautiful country IS called the Land of Eternal Spring.
When I think of “back to school” season, I think of Autumn, not January. It’s only 40 years of my conditioning and customs. Also, when I see the parades start and the huge, colorful signs for the upcoming Queens of the area, to me it feels like Spring. I’m not sure why, perhaps a lifelong association of those kinds of activities with the beginning of summer, although here, that doesn’t really happen the same way. Regardless of what season it is here or in other parts of the world, here is where I’d rather be!
