Guarding Silently

Guarding Silently by Luna McCarthy

Perhaps an even odder thought than wondering what total strangers are thinking (referenced in “When I Grow Up”), is wondering what (if they could think) a statue is thinking. There are so many beautiful figurines in Xela, in the cemetery and in lots of other places, that sometimes I let my mind wander and I consider what these statues may be thinking of us all, as we pass. Do they watch and hurt for the crying child being walked too quickly by his mother? Do they see and celebrate the tender caress of a Grandfather to his wife’s cheek as they sit together? Do they hold mystical power over the property that they guard? So many questions…well, that is, if they were real…
