Just Part of the Working World

Previous posts have talked about children in the work force, as vendors or shoe shine boys, but the presence of children in the workplace goes even further than that. Many mothers carry or bring their children to their work every day. It is not uncommon to see 3 or 4 year old children helping to assist or handing back change in the family tienda, learning the ways of the family business. This cherub-faced little boy is “helping” his mom sell gelatinas (jellos) to a crowd in the Benito Juarez Park.
