PC vs. PP

Pinulito by Luna McCarthy

Other than the rivalry between futbol teams, there is another big rivalry in Xela; the rivalry between Pollo Campero and Pollo Pinulito. Fried chicken is exceptionally popular here and there are many places along the street where you can get some fried-up goodness. But if you ask the locals where they prefer to buy their chicken, they will either say “Pollo Campero” or “Pinulito” or “Meh, anywhere”. But for a “little guy” to compete with a national chain restaurant, it must be pretty impressive…there is even a Facebook page dedicated to Pollo Pinulito! Which do you prefer?

Haven’t been to “Pinulito” yet, but I’m a big “Campero” fan.  Maybe when I get to Xela, “Pinulito” can change my mind…!

  • Luna, actually Pollo Campero is a transnational corporation with restaurants in America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East thus far. Pollo Pinulito is an actual national chain. There are Pinulitos in Guatemala City and Antigua Guatemala that I have seen. I am sure there are in many more places.

Ah yes Rudy, I made an error saying that PC is a national chain, I knew that PC is worldwide…I even heard a rumour that there might be a PC in Russia…? Not sure if that is true, but very interesting none-the-less 🙂
