Amores perros

Amores perros

Seeing these hungry dogs made me think about the movie Amores Perros by Mexican director, Alejandro González Iñárritu. Which is strange, because these dogs, they don’t really have anything to do with the ones in the movie. But you never know what connotations bring you. By the way, if you still haven’t seen the movie, it is a must-see one.

  1. I like this photo. But these are really “chuchos”, not “perros”.

I love the word “chucho” because it is one of those words that has many different meanings that are sometimes contradictory. It can be an insult, or it can be affectionate. It usually means “street dog” or “mutt” or “mongrel”, whereas “perro” is usually reserved for nice-looking dogs that have a home and a specific breed.

Ask your spanish teacher about chuchos vs. perros!

  2. But these chuchos actually look pretty decent! They usually have mange and are very boney.
There are at least 2 organizations in Xela that work with street animals, depending on whatever fundraising activities or personal donations they can get. People are not used to neutering their pets.
By the way, I loved “Amores Perros”!
