This summer in July, during one of my trips to Xela, I captured this during an early evening procession. Because I didn’t get a chance to talk to her, I don’t really have much to say. But her eyes… We literally stared at each other for a while.

  1. If that doesn´t give you the idea of solemnity, I don´t know what will!
The figures in the background are Las Capitanas. These ladies are all widows or unmarried women over 50 who dedicate themselves to serving within the Church, through Hermandades. Their “traje” includes the Nim Pot which is a special huipil, usually seen only on brides, Umial Tinimit and Las Capitanas.

    1. Cristina,

I have a feeling that you would be a great person for me to talk to. Would you be interested in meeting me sometime this week? If so, can you contact me via my personal e-mail?

      1. Sure, I’d love to have you over at my house, since we live close by. Could you please send me an email, because I can’t find yours.
