Celaya Youth Symphony Orchestra

On Monday night, Celaya Youth Symphony Orchestra from Mexico gave an enjoyable concert at Central Park. Before the concert I walked around a little bit and tried to capture some portraits of the young musicians. The number of people, who filled Central Park that night, showed the interest of Quetzaltecos in classical music.

As a side note, I have to make a confession. At the beginning of the concert, while I was on the stage, taking photos, at the beginning of the concert, I passed by a light and it fell off the stage. But I swear I didn’t even touch it. I felt really bad, though.

  1. I was at their concert last night at the Municipal Theater. They are soooo good! At the end they played Luna de Xelaju (BUT OF COURSE!), and in the middle of it, the director turned around and directed the audience while we all sang. It was incredibly moving!
I really liked a medley of Mexican songs that date back to the Mexican Revolution, like Adelita.
Great pictures! Did you get one of the whole orchestra?

    1. Ah! They had another concert last night!??? Because I am working too much, I can’t keep up with all the events in town. Do you mind letting me know when you hear about something like this? (You can e-mail me at pinaristek@gmail.com)

And yes I had some full orchestra pictures too. But I thought because i had the chance to get closer to the musicians ( which most of the audience didn’t have) I would share closer portrait shots. What do you think about this idea?

  2. Sure, I´ll let you know. For starters, there will be a theater festival from November 28th to December 2nd at the Teatro. Let me check for schedules and what specific plays will be on.
I think it´s great that you got pictures of the musicians, especially before they got on stage. It´s just that the whole orchestra looked grandiose!!!

  3. @Pinar, I have to confess that I am also a big fan of taking photos of musicians while performing, especially at night. I have covered the International Jazz Festival in Antigua Guatemala in previous years.
