Different facades of reality

Different facades of reality

Last Friday, on my way to work at Black Cat, I came across this guy, sleeping in the street around 2:30 p.m. I don’t know why he ended up in the street. I don’t know if he was drunk or not. I don’t know if he was cold or comfortable or ashamed of sleeping there. Was it his choice or did he have to choose this? I don’t know. And I can’t be judgemental in this case. I just know that Xela is a beautiful city to live in many different ways. But the reality is not only about beauty. Difficulties go hand in hand with beauties, I guess…

This is one of the ugly realities that happen all over our country. It´s sad that men say they don´t have any money for their children´s food or clothes, but there´s plenty of money to get this drunk and pass out on the street. His backpack looks nice. My guess is, he´s either a student or a young worker who decided he was going to have a couple drinks and those ended up taking a couple of days.

It is not only Guatemala, Cristina. It is all over the world, unfortunately…

@Pinar, well said. I am glad you’re showing us not only touristic vistas, but real vistas from Xelajú. I really appreciate your photos from Xela, a place I would love to visit more often.

Too bad AA is not strong in Guatemala.
I know that if someone accepts to be an alcoholic, for the rest of his friend it would be like saying that he or she is HIV positive. So sad.
